Pre-Conference Sightseeing tour with Potnapekka Bus

This tour takes us to the river, seaside, marshlands and woods. We will see
old and new monumental centres of Oulu, sites of culture and technology.
During the tour we will hear stories about tar merchants, ship builders, sea
farers and salmon fishers who played an important role in the history of
Oulu.
The places we will visit on the tour are among other things the following:
Oulu’s pedestrian street “Rotuaari”, library, theatre and market place.
We will make a stop at the Market Hall to buy some snacks.
After the Market place we will continue our tour through the following
places - Linnansaari - Raatinsaari - Toivoniemi - Koskitie -
Lassinkallionsilta - Science Centre Tietomaa - Kruununmakasiini - City Art
museum..
Our tour continues to Hupisaaret which is a park area in the city centre. If
we are lucky to have a sunny day we will enjoy a picnic in a park by the
River Oulu and in the midst of beautiful Finnish trees and flowers.
After the picnic in Hupisaaret we shall continue to Nallikari Camping area
in where we will taste Finnish ice-cream by the beautiful blue sea.
Nallikari is a “paradise” with it’s long sandy beach for swimmers and
sun-lovers!
From Nallikari we shall drive back to the city centre and visit the Oulu
Castle. Coffee and tea will be served in the Castle.
The tour will end at the hotels Radisson Sas at 22.00 and Sokos Hotel Arina at 22.15.
Post-Conference Tour to Rovaniemi

Departure time: Wednesday at 16.00 in front of the Conference Venue

Return time: Thursday at 19.00 to the hotels Radisson Sas and Arina
Kindly notice! If you will take part on this tour, please check your hotel reservation details in Oulu carefully. The tour will return to Oulu on Thursday evening around 19 pm. In case you will stay overnight in Oulu, remember to book the room in advance.

Departure from Oulu to Rovaniemi at 16.00 by charter bus.
The bus will pick up the participants from the Conference Venue at the
University of Oulu. Remember to take your luggage with you in the morning!
- During the trip a coffee&tea break at own expense.
- Check-in to the hotel Rantasipi Pohjanhovi at 20.00.
- Departure to the (approx. at 20.45) Welcoming Dinner and Party in Santamus.
“A Golden Moment on the Arctic Circle”
The host of Santamus, Matti Korva, is a versatile musician who can put the
finishing touch to the dinner by playing kantele, the Finnish national
string instrument. Santamus invites the visitors to come and test their
skills at gold panning, too. We will take delight in finding real Lappish
Lemmenjoki gold nuggets from our pan. After a delicious dinner we move by
bus to Hill and there we will raise a toast to the Midnight Sun! After this
brightening experience we will return to Pohjanhovi.

Departure for the Tour of Shooting the Cascades!
At 9.30 we will meet the safari guide. After the short walk to Safarihouse our rubber rafting programme starts from Rovaniemi centre. Captain will meet the team at our safarihouse where we get rafting outfits. After this we will drive to the start point, 25 kilometres north from Rovaniemi. After a short lesson and checking the equipment, we start paddling with rubber rafts along the river. Ten kilometres with six different rapids are waiting for us!
Approximately at
12.00, after the river part we will visit Santa Claus Village, where we have
time for shopping in the numerous souvenir and handicraft shops of Santa
Claus Village, sending post cards at Santa's Main Post Office, meeting Santa
himself at his residence, etc.
After visiting Santa Claus Village, we will continue our travel to Villa
Maria, a traditional house built at the beginning of the twentieth century.
The milieu cherishes Finnish traditions while providing a cosy and rush-free
setting for the world of culinary delights.
