
The Digihome Services is a research project, launched by The Technical Research Center of Finland (VTT) during autumn 2005. The Digihome Service project will develop and pilot the technologies, concepts and services related to digital home system, in order to validate the latest technology advances for residential living environment.
The people, living in their apartments and houses today have only very poor or none possibilities to monitor and interact their living environments. However, in many studies it has been shown that inhabitants have an interest and a need to monitor their energy and water consumption, for example. Currently, they are unaware of their consumption until bills arrive. In addition to monitoring the consumptions, even other applications and services like user control of thier living environment (temperature, ventilation, lighting), surveillance and alarming are in the interest of inhabitants.
The Digihome Services project aims to develop concepts for integration of the intelligent and mobile home environments and services. The new emerging concepts. proposed by the project, will improve competitiveness of house and building automation and consumer electronics markets in large scale and will offer opportunities to define new products for mobile and wireless clusters. The project will search for new service opprtunites and productivity improvments for real estate companies and other services providers. The future business potentials will be exploit together with a group of collaboration companies.
