Approach and goal
- The
project develops novel technologies for production of value-added food
packages and composites based on renewable materials and enzymatic or
chemo-enzymatic methods. The main goal of the project is to develop
generic technologies applicable to a number of products
The main technical and scientific outputs of
the project will be:
-
Development of technically and environmentally sound wood
fibre based, 100 % biodegradable and renewable materials for load bearing
composites and food packaging materials
-
Development of novel enzymatic and chemo-enzymatic methods
for modification of lignin-rich wood fibres by using phenoloxidizing
enzymes
-
Demonstration the feasibility of composite and food
packaging prototypes prepared with novel wood fibres and biopolymers
-
Elucidation of radical reaction mechanisms involved in
enzymatic and chemo-enzymatic oxidation as well as their role in improving
the adhesion between lignin-rich fibres and biopolymers
